Teta Young, a 35-year-old woman, is facing significant medical bills totaling US $360.00 plus LRD 52,500.00 at the John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital in Sinkor, Monrovia.
Her mother, Ma Matadi Nyanti, was informed on September 17 that these bills must be settled before Teta can be discharged.
Teta’s situation took a tragic turn after giving birth to twins via C-section in 2023. Following her surgery in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County, she experienced severe complications, leading to a second surgery.
Despite medical efforts, her condition worsened, resulting in abdominal swelling, swollen legs, and paralysis of her right arm. Although she is now in a better state to leave the hospital, she cannot afford to do so.
The U.S.-based NGO, “Sister With Impact,” has stepped in to assist, contributing US $200.00 towards her medical expenses.
Ma Matadi is grateful for their support but urgently needs further financial help to cover the remaining bills and additional medications.
Ma Matadi is appealing to the public and humanitarian organizations for any assistance to save her daughter’s life. She informed this paper that she’s trying everything humanly possible to raise the money to settle Teta’s medical bills.
According to Ma Matadi, she has been receiving minimal support from well-meaning Liberians but has not been able to raise enough money.
She is, however, calling on women’s organizations, lawmakers, well-meaning Liberians, and other international organizations to come to her aid.
“I’m just asking anyone to help me pay my daughter’s hospital bills. I’m a single mother. My people, I need your help. I am calling on our president, Joseph Boakai, and our lawmakers to help me,” Teta’s mother pleaded, tears rolling down her cheeks.
