US Lawmaker Warns Nigeria Over Christian Killings

By Emmanuel M. Kangar, Jr.

U.S. Congressman Riley M. Moore has warned that Nigeria risks damaging its relationship with the United States if it fails to better protect its Christian population.

The warning follows a deadly overnight attack in Jos North, Plateau State, where gunmen reportedly opened fire on residents during Palm Sunday. Local sources say dozens were killed and many others injured, prompting widespread panic as residents fled their homes.

In a statement posted on X, Moore said Nigeria must “take this threat seriously and mobilize to defend our brothers and sisters in Christ,” adding that failure to act could bring “significant consequences” for bilateral ties.

Nigerian authorities have imposed a curfew in affected parts of Jos and deployed additional security forces to restore order and prevent further violence.

The incident has heightened concerns about ongoing insecurity in Plateau State, a region that has experienced repeated communal and sectarian clashes in recent years.
