Residents of Vaizulo have expressed frustrated with their living conditions, citing a severe lack of basic services and accusing the Boakai-Koung administration of failing to fulfill the promises made during the election campaign.
The community faces numerous challenges, including inadequate access to safe drinking water, limited educational facilities, insufficient healthcare, and scarce employment opportunities. This situation has fueled growing disillusionment, especially among the youth, who had strongly supported the current government.
“The conditions here are dire, especially for our children,” said Blama Cooper, Youth Chairman of Vaizulo. Cooper criticized the Boakai-Koung administration for making false promises to the people of Bomi County to secure votes, only to leave them disappointed.
He pointed out the strong backing the administration received from Vaizulo’s youth, who expected real improvements such as development projects, job creation, and salary increases. However, these hopes remain unmet.
Cooper also expressed frustration with Bomi County Senators Edwin Snowe and Alex Tyler, accusing them of neglecting their duties and contributing to the deteriorating living standards across the county.
Echoing these concerns, Vaizulo Town Chairlady Hawa Jackson stressed the urgent need for women’s empowerment. She called on the government to support women, especially by providing resources to boost their farming efforts and strengthen the local economy.
Jackson lamented that the promises made by lawmakers during the campaign were merely political rhetoric aimed at winning power. “They spoke so well before the election, promising us everything,” she said. “Now, we see nothing.”
She further urged President Boakai to take firm action against corruption within his administration, asserting that rooting out corrupt officials is crucial for Liberia’s progress. According to Jackson, corruption continues to undermine the foundation needed for sustainable development.
The mounting dissatisfaction in Vaizulo reflects broader challenges faced by newly elected officials in meeting the high expectations of their constituents.
Residents of Vaizulo are demanding accountability from the Boakai-Koung administration and a sincere commitment to delivering on the promises made during the 2023 general elections.
