Vice President Koung to Represent Liberia at Powering Africa Summit

Vice President, Hon. Jeremiah Kpan Koung, Sr., is set to arrive in Washington, D.C., on March 5, 2025, to attend the 10th Powering Africa Summit scheduled for March 6-7, 2025. During the summit, Vice President Koung will highlight the importance of energy in Liberia’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development, with a particular focus on expanding access to affordable and reliable energy across the country.

As Chairman of the High-Level Steering Committee on Liberia’s Energy Crisis, Vice President Koung will outline the government’s strategies for addressing energy challenges in the immediate, medium, and long terms. He will also emphasize Liberia’s commitment to creating a favorable investment climate, encouraging U.S. businesses and investors to explore opportunities in the energy sector.

His presentation will center on sustainable financing for energy projects, promoting innovation, and strengthening energy partnerships between Liberia and the United States. On the sidelines of the summit, Vice President Koung is expected to meet with senior U.S. government officials, including Ambassador Troy Fitrell from the U.S. Department of State, Mr. Joshua Volz from the U.S. Department of Energy, and key members of the U.S. Congress such as Honorable Sara Jacobs, Senator Chris Coons, and Representative Ilhan Omar. These discussions will focus on energy cooperation, economic development, and regional security.

Additionally, during a town hall meeting, Vice President Koung will engage with the Liberian diaspora in the Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia metropolitan area. Following the summit, the Vice President will travel to Pennsylvania on March 8, 2025, for a similar meeting organized by the Liberian Association of Pennsylvania and the Union of Liberian Associations in the Americas. The town hall will provide a platform for dialogue with the Liberian community on national development, governance, peace, and security issues.

The Powering Africa Summit serves as a premier platform to advance U.S.-Africa energy partnerships, bringing together government leaders, investors, and experts to discuss Africa’s energy needs and the role of finance in accelerating the continent’s energy transition.
