A group of determined farmers in Voinjama District is preparing for a significant increase in vegetable production this farming season.
The effort is being led by a grassroots agricultural group known as “Try and See”, which has gained recognition for its consistent work in promoting sustainable vegetable farming despite being just one year old.
According to Mr. Alfred T. Mulbah, General Secretary of the organization, the group is deeply committed to increasing food production in the region.
The initiative brings together 14 active members who meet weekly for a collective farming day every Saturday in Kolubah Gileh Town, located in the Bondi Clan of Voinjama District.
Chairlady Madam Saybah Sorsor acknowledged the support from a visiting media team, expressing appreciation for their efforts in spotlighting local farming initiatives. She emphasized the importance of such exposure in helping to market their produce both locally and nationally.
To expand their vegetable farming operations, the group has outlined a set of critical tools and materials they currently lack.
These include: Water pumps for irrigation, Insecticide sprays, Farming tools such as cutlasses, Protective and gear including raincoats and rubber boots.
The “Try and See” organization is appealing to the Liberian government, NGOs, and agricultural partners for support in acquiring these resources.
According to the group, such assistance would greatly enhance their productivity and ensure sustainable food availability in Lofa County.
As the rains settle in and the planting season gains momentum, these farmers are eager to demonstrate that with the right support, community-based agriculture can be a powerful driver of rural development and food security.
