MONROVIA, August 5, 2025 – The Head of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) in Liberia, Mr. Dale Gbotoe, has refuted claims circulating on social media that this year’s WAEC results will be released on Wednesday, describing the information as “false and misleading.”
Speaking during MICAT regular press briefing, Mr. Gbotoe clarified that the release of results follows a formal process that involves submission to the Ministry of Education and onward transmission to the Office of the President before any public announcement is made.
“The reports you are seeing on social media are not true. We cannot release the results without first presenting them to the President’s office,” he stated.
Mr. Gbotoe further explained that WAEC is working closely with the Ministry of Information to schedule the official announcement, which is expected before August 15.
“If the Ministry of Information grants us Tuesday, we will announce the results on August 12. If they prefer August 14, we will comply accordingly,” he noted.
This year, more than 180,000 students sat the WAEC exams across Liberia. The government, according to Gbotoe, covered the exam fees for approximately 53,000 senior high school candidates and 23,000 students in the elementary division.
The WAEC boss emphasized the Council’s commitment to transparency and urged the public to rely only on official channels for updates regarding the release of examination results.
