Water and Roads Bring Relief as Haliry Gray Responds to Bolloh Poe’s Longstanding Needs

By Patrick Teah, Jr.

Residents of Bolloh Poe community in Dorbor Statutory District are beginning to experience relief after years of struggling with limited access to safe drinking water and poor road conditions, following humanitarian interventions by local miner and philanthropist Haliry Gray.

For decades, families in Bolloh Poe — particularly women and children — have been forced to walk long distances to fetch unsafe water, while impassable roads have cut the community off from markets, health services, and other essential facilities.

In response to these challenges, Mr. Gray, a native of the district and a licensed Class “C” miner operating in the area, has initiated a series of community development projects aimed at improving basic living conditions.
As part of the intervention, three new hand pumps have been constructed in different parts of Bolloh Poe, while another previously damaged pump has been rehabilitated and restored to service. Residents say the water facilities are already reducing hardship and improving access to clean and safe drinking water.

In addition to the water projects, Mr. Gray has disclosed plans to construct feeder roads linking Poe-Docur City to other parts of Grand Kru County. According to community members, the proposed road works are expected to ease transportation, reduce isolation, and boost local economic activity by improving access to markets and public services.

Speaking on January 8, residents described the interventions as timely and lifesaving, noting that the projects address fundamental human needs rather than short-term or political considerations. Many said the initiatives demonstrate a practical commitment to humanitarian service and grassroots development.

Although Mr. Gray has not formally declared any political intentions, his actions have sparked discussions across the county, with some residents suggesting that his approach places renewed pressure on leaders to prioritize tangible development in rural communities.

For now, community members say their focus remains on the immediate impact—clean water now available, hope restored, and anticipation that improved roads will soon reconnect Bolloh Poe to the rest of the county. Residents are also calling on other well-meaning citizens and stakeholders to support community-driven initiatives that promote human dignity and meet basic needs.
