Former Margibi County Senator has issued a scathing critique of political patronage and what she described as the emerging trend of “godfatherism” in local politics, taking direct aim at former House Speaker Emmanuel Nuquay’s rumored re-election bid.
In a strongly worded public statement, the former senator warned against allowing Margibi County to become a haven for individuals seeking to avoid accountability, particularly those with questionable political or financial histories.
“Our county should not serve as a refuge for those attempting to evade responsibility for their alleged actions,” she stated. She praised the citizens of Margibi as “extraordinary, honest, dedicated, and wise,” urging them to resist political manipulation and exploitation.
Rejecting Titles Based on Wealth
The former senator also condemned the tendency to idolize political figures based solely on wealth or longevity in office. Referring to herself and fellow former senator David Mayongar, she declared, “We won’t assign such titles based on ill-gotten wealth,” rejecting the labels of “godfather” and “godmother” in the political sphere.
She emphasized that reverence for public servants should be earned through integrity and service, not financial influence or long-standing tenure.
Criticism of Nuquay’s Re-election Bid
In a direct message to Hon. Emmanuel Nuquay, the former senator expressed disappointment over reports of his intention to return to office, despite his previous stance against prolonged political tenure.
“I urge you to explore potential new candidates from the upper ranks,” she wrote, calling for fresh leadership and a generational shift. “Why should one person be treated like a little god for nearly three decades?” she questioned, citing financial clout rather than genuine admiration as the basis for such enduring political dominance.
She reaffirmed her belief in term limits, referencing past caucus deliberations with Senator Roland Kaine and Hon. Ballah Zayzay where she supported a two-term cap for political officeholders.
Call for Change and Unity
Urging citizens to reject the culture of political idolization, the former senator warned that such dynamics could breed division and resentment in the county.
“I urge us all to reject the idea of creating ‘gods’ within our small county, where jealousy and resentment can easily flourish,” she stated. “God bless our county and safeguard our nation.”
Her comments have stirred conversation across the county, with local leaders and residents echoing her call for ethical leadership, transparency, and greater opportunities for youth in the political arena.
