“Wheelbarrow Politicians”: Nuquay Accuses Critics of Chasing Stomach Politics

By Emmanuel Degleh

KAKATA, Liberia – Margibi County Senator Emmanuel Nuquay has hit back at critics and political rivals, declaring that true leadership is rooted in humility and service rather than power or self-glorification.

Speaking in Kakata on Sunday, September 21, as guest speaker at the induction of the Lango Town community leadership, Nuquay said leadership must reflect the aspirations of the people and be guided by humility.

“Leadership is about service, not power and self-glorification,” he stressed, adding that leaders should remain humble as servants of those they represent.

The Senator’s remarks come amid reports of political alliances forming against him ahead of the 2029 general elections. Taking a swipe at his opponents, he likened them to “witch doctors” who claim to enrich others but cannot improve their own conditions.

“If those ganging against me want to challenge me, let them contest directly and not fight a proxy war,” he declared.

Nuquay further accused some of his rivals of seeking personal gain instead of representing the people’s interest.

“They are carrying their stomachs in wheelbarrows, looking for someone to sponge on, as they hold no relevance and are living in political extinction,” he charged. He also warned Margibians to be cautious of individuals he said were “riding on them just to get cook bowl money.”

Questioning the track records of his critics, Nuquay alleged that most of the former lawmakers now aligning against him had “no visible development trademark” during their years in the legislature.

Meanwhile, he pledged his office’s support to the newly inducted leadership of Lango Town, assuring residents of his continued commitment to work with local communities for the growth and development of Margibi County.
