WHO Celebrates World Immunization Week 2025

The World Health Organization (WHO) celebrates World Immunization Week 2025 under the global theme: “Immunization for All is Humanly Possible.”

This theme serves as a powerful reminder of the extraordinary achievements in global health made possible through vaccines.

Over the last 50 years, immunization programs have saved at least 154 million lives, translating to an incredible 6 lives a minute, every day, for five decades.

Vaccination has played a critical role in reducing infant mortality worldwide, contributing to a 40% improvement in infant survival rates, and Liberia is no exception.

More children are surviving their first year of life than at any other point in human history, with the measles vaccine alone accounting for 60% of those lives saved.

This underscores the undeniable importance of vaccines in the fight against preventable diseases.

However, the work is far from over.

The future of immunization holds the promise of reaching even more people, especially the millions of children who have never received a single vaccine.

It also involves protecting vulnerable populations, from grandparents at risk of influenza to babies vulnerable to malaria and RSV, pregnant mothers from tetanus, and young girls from HPV.

Vaccination: A Critical Tool in Global Health

The world is at the at a critical juncture in the history of global health. The Hard-won victories, such as the eradication of smallpox and the near-elimination of polio, are now at risk.

Decades of collaboration between governments, aid organizations, scientists, healthcare workers, and parents have brought us to where we are today. Yet, challenges remain, including setbacks in vaccination coverage in some regions due to misinformation and gaps in healthcare access.

Under the theme “Immunization for All is Humanly Possible,” World Immunization Week 2025 calls for global solidarity to ensure that children, adolescents, adults, and entire communities are protected from vaccine-preventable diseases.

This year’s observance aims to inspire continued action and commitment to ensuring that vaccines are accessible to everyone, regardless of geographic location, socio-economic status, or background.

Vaccines: Proof of What We Can Achieve Together

Vaccines stand as a testament to the power of collective action.

They show us that when we unite, less disease and more life are not just aspirational—they are achievable.

The remarkable progress made over the past five decades proves that the global community has the capability to protect millions more lives.

As the world moves forward, World Immunization Week 2025 serves as a call to action: It’s time to ensure that immunization for all is not just a goal but a reality—one that we can and must achieve together.
