Monrovia — Former Minister of Mines and Energy, Wilmot Paye, has weighed in on the ongoing controversy involving Prophet Key and Chief Justice His Honor Yamie Quiqui Gbeisay, Sr., calling on the Supreme Court of Liberia to take decisive action to address what he described as growing indiscipline in the country.
Justin Oldpa Yeazean affectionately known Prophet Key was recently summoned before the Full Bench of the Supreme Court for allegedly making repeated insulting remarks against the Chief Justice. During proceedings, the controversial political figure reportedly pleaded with the Court and promised to refrain from insulting women.
The case, which has drawn widespread public attention, centers on allegations that Prophet Key used offensive and derogatory language toward the nation’s top judicial official. His appearance before the Court marks a significant development in a matter that has sparked debate over free speech, respect for public officials, and accountability.
Commenting on the situation, Mr. Paye stressed the importance of a firm judicial response.
“Regarding the ongoing Justin Oldpa Yeazean saga, it is extremely important for the Supreme Court to make a decision that will ultimately end the growing waves of indiscipline in the country. For God’s sake, this tendency has to end, and now,” Paye stated.
He added that a strong ruling would serve as a powerful lesson and help curb what he described as a rising culture of insults and offensive language in Liberia.
“After all, nobody should be allowed to use any platform, private or public, to hurl insults and offensive language as has lately become a custom here in Liberia,” he said.
The former minister further argued that such behavior runs contrary to Liberia’s deeply rooted religious and cultural values.
“In the first place, there is no justification for deviant conduct and acts of barbarity in a deeply religious country. Liberia’s strong Christian, Islamic and African traditions abhor such conduct,” Paye asserted.
He expressed hope that the Supreme Court would act promptly to “insulate our kids against the growing waves of deviant conduct, which now appears to be the ‘new normal.’” Paye emphasized that the Court possesses the constitutional authority to safeguard the nation’s future.
It remains unclear whether the Supreme Court will accept Prophet Key’s apology or impose sanctions.
Meanwhile, the supreme court will announce its final ruling on the matter on Friday, February 13, 2026 at 11am.
