The World Maritime University has appointed Liberia’s Dr. Harry Conway, Chair of the Marine Environment Protection Committee at the International Maritime Organization and Alternate Permanent Representative to IMO, as Adjunct Fellow.
In a letter dated November 4 2024, to Dr. Conway, the President of WMU, Dr. Maximo Q. Mejia, Jr., informed Dr. Conway that the WMU Committee for Appointment of External Faculty has decided to appoint him as an Adjunct Fellow for three years from December 1 2024 – November 30 2027.
Accordingly, Dr. Conway was informed that should he accept the offer and title as a member of the Adjunct Fellow, he agrees to be bound by the applicable standards and regulations of WMU relating to all academic activities.
He is expected to fully subscribe to WMU’s mission and vision for quality in teaching and learning, participate in research and publication activities, provide advice on the development of teaching and research, support engagement with relevant stakeholders, and offer guidance on strategic matters as appropriate in pursuit of the WMU’s mission and vision.
Dr. Conway is also expected to provide the University with strategic advice to help WMU’s development in support of its mission and vision.
Dr. Conway’s appointment by the WMU may come as no surprise since he served as an External Examiner or Opponent to a PhD Student at the University in 2023.
Liberia is proud that one of its own is one of the most influential voices in global maritime affairs today, as evidenced by his numerous speaking engagements across the globe and his appointment as an adjunct fellow by WMU.
