Yarpah Commissioner Rallies Support for Sanitation as Township Inches Toward City Status

Yarpah Town, Rivercess County – As Yarpah Township edges closer to achieving city status, Commissioner Janjay Zodehgar is calling on both national and county authorities to prioritize sanitation funding as a key component of the town’s transformation.

In an interview with Verity on Tuesday, August 5, Commissioner Zodehgar lauded the Liberian government and its development partners for a series of ongoing infrastructure projects, including the construction of a modern town hall, the launch of a clean water initiative, and the electrification of Yarpah’s main streets.

“These developments have restored a sense of dignity to our residents and improved our quality of life,” Zodehgar said. “But as we move toward city status, we must not overlook the importance of cleanliness and public health.”

He is appealing for a dedicated sanitation budget from both Rivercess County leadership and the central government, stressing that long-term progress depends on maintaining a clean and healthy environment.

Zodehgar highlighted the township’s newly launched “First Saturday Clean-Up” campaign-a mandatory monthly initiative aimed at promoting hygiene and civic responsibility. He also called for greater support for local volunteers who have been instrumental in keeping Yarpah and its surrounding communities clean.

“As we build roads, halls, and power lines, we must also build systems to manage waste and keep our communities healthy,” he said. “Sanitation must be part of the foundation for our future as a city.”

The commissioner’s appeal comes amid growing optimism over Yarpah Township’s rapid development and its potential to serve as a model for grassroots-led progress supported by government and donor collaboration.
