The Liberian Senate has officially confirmed Atty. Cornelia W. Kruah as the new Minister of Youth and Sports, following a decisive roll-call vote in which all 20 senators present supported her nomination.
Her confirmation comes after a thorough vetting process conducted by the Senate Committee on Youth and Sports, chaired by River Cess County Senator Bill Teah Twehway, and follows a confirmation hearing in which Kruah presented a comprehensive policy vision for youth empowerment and sports development nationwide.
During her committee appearance, Kruah outlined strategies to revitalize youth programs and strengthen sports administration across Liberia.
Lawmakers asked extensive questions on policy direction, institutional reform, and practical initiatives to create opportunities for young people. Committee members described her responses as clear, confident, and grounded in experience.
In its report to the plenary, the committee commended Kruah’s professional qualifications and concluded that she met all constitutional and statutory requirements for the ministerial role. Senate Secretary Nanborlor Singbeh, reading from the report, told the chamber:
“After carefully reviewing the nominee’s presentation at the confirmation hearing and her demonstrated expertise and depth of knowledge, the committee is satisfied that she possesses the competence, suitability, and qualifications required for the position of Minister of Youth and Sports and therefore recommends her confirmation by plenary.”
Acting on the committee’s recommendation, Grand Cape Mount County Senator Dabah Varpilah moved that the Senate proceed with Kruah’s confirmation. The motion was seconded and adopted without objection, leading to a roll-call vote in which all 20 senators present voted in favor, confirming her without dissent. The Senate has since instructed its Secretary to formally communicate the decision to the Executive for final appointment.
Kruah’s appointment is part of a broader government restructuring being carried out by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai to enhance performance and service delivery across public institutions. Before her elevation, Kruah served as Deputy Minister for Administration at the Ministry of State for Presidential Affairs, where she played a pivotal role in internal management and executive coordination.
Her confirmation also follows the reassignment of former Youth and Sports Minister Jeror Cole Bangalu, who now heads the Liberia Refugee Repatriation and Resettlement Commission.
Observers say Kruah’s leadership comes at a crucial time, as Liberia continues to prioritize youth development and sports as key national initiatives, and many stakeholders are optimistic about the reforms and programs she intends to implement.
