GRAND Gedeh, Liberia—Zubalah Kissiku, the Judge of the Seventh Judicial Circuit Court in Grand Gedeh County, has sentenced a 29-year-old man, Franklin Gobah, to five years in prison for raping a 91-year-old woman.
The crime occurred in May of last year at the victim’s home. According to medical reports, specimens were found in the victim, confirming the act.
Defendant Gobah has denied all charges against him.
Rape is defined as when a person has sexual intercourse with another person (male or female) without consent or agreement from that person. According to the Revised Penal Law of Liberia, rape is intentionally penetrating the vagina, anus (butt), mouth, or any openings of another person, male or female, without their consent.
Rape is classified as a first-degree felony under Liberian law.
The actions of defendant Gobah are in violation of Section 14.70 of the Revised Penal Law of Liberia.
Gobah is currently serving his five-year sentence at the prison facility in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County.
