Journalist Dodoo Dismisses Claims of Political Motive Behind Fire at His Home

Monrovia, Liberia – Journalist Lennart Dodoo, Chief Executive Officer of the Liberian Investigator Newspaper, has publicly addressed the fire incident that damaged his home, rejecting speculation that it was politically motivated.

Dodoo explained that the fire began in the generator room and quickly spread to the roof of his residence. He credited his neighbors for their swift intervention, which helped contain the blaze within 45 minutes. No casualties were reported.

“By God’s grace, my entire community came together to intervene,” Dodoo said, expressing gratitude for the support he received.

The incident, however, has sparked controversy, with speculation on social media suggesting the fire may have been an act of arson in response to his critical reporting on the Unity Party-led government. Dodoo firmly rejected these claims, stating there is no evidence to support such allegations.

“The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and I see no reason to politicize this incident,” he said.

Dodoo also used the opportunity to reaffirm his journalistic independence, emphasizing that his reporting is not influenced by any political agenda.

“I am not an anti-government journalist, nor do I align with the opposition. I report the facts as they are, with no strings attached. For me, it has never mattered where the chips fall,” he asserted.

While addressing the public, Dodoo raised concerns about the delayed response from the fire service. According to him, emergency responders failed to arrive because they received a call indicating the situation was under control—a call he and his family remain unaware of.

“My only regret was that the fire service didn’t show up. They later informed the police that they received a call saying the situation was under control. Wherever this call came from, my family and I don’t know,” Dodoo said.

Meanwhile, Dodoo urged the public to avoid drawing political conclusions without credible evidence. For now, he and his family are focusing on rebuilding their lives following the unsettling experience.
