President Joseph Nyuma Boakai delivered a powerful address on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at the formal opening of the March 2025 Term of Liberia’s Supreme Court. The event, held at the Temple of Justice, was graced by Chief Justice Sie-A-Nyene Gyapay Yuoh, Associate Justices, members of the National Legislature, judges, and magistrates, signaling a strong commitment to uphold the principles of the Liberian Constitution.
In his address, President Boakai emphasized the critical role of an independent judiciary in ensuring the stability and democracy of Liberia. He acknowledged the significant responsibility of the nation’s highest court to dispense justice impartially, without fear, favor, or delay, urging the Justices to continue to uphold these values in their rulings. “The judiciary is not only the guardian of justice but also the backbone of our democratic process,” the President stated.
Reaffirming his administration’s dedication to maintaining the rule of law, President Boakai highlighted that a fair and transparent judiciary is essential to the development of the country. His administration, he noted, would continue to collaborate with the Judiciary to ensure that Liberia’s legal system remains robust and effective in delivering justice for all its citizens.
In addition, the President acknowledged the valuable service of Chief Justice Sie-A-Nyene Gyapay Yuoh since her appointment in 2022, praising her leadership and wishing her success in future endeavors. He also reflected on the legacy of Liberia’s former Chief Justices, notably Samuel Benedict, Liberia’s first Chief Justice, and Louis Arthur Grimes, whose contributions have had a lasting impact on the country’s legal system.
President Boakai also stressed that the rule of law is a cornerstone of his administration’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development, reaffirming his commitment to ensuring the continued functioning of an independent judiciary. “As the executive branch, we remain steadfast in supporting the judicial process to ensure justice for all,” the President added.
