The Ambassador of Liberia to the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Liberia to the United Nations, H.E. Lewis G. Brown II, has officially presented his Letter of Credence to the Secretary General of the United Nations, Mr. Antonio Guterres, at the UN Headquarters in New York.
Upon receiving the Letter of Credence from Ambassador Brown, Secretary General Guterres extended a warm welcome to the new ambassador and, through him, conveyed greetings to the President of Liberia. He commended Liberia for successfully building a vibrant democracy and avoiding the common pitfalls of regression into conflict following a period of civil strife. Guterres also acknowledged Liberia’s remarkable achievements despite the challenges posed by international systems, offering his cooperation and friendship to Ambassador Brown while expressing hopes for Liberia’s support at the forthcoming International Conference on Financing for Development.
Ambassador Brown thanked Secretary General Guterres for his fraternal welcome and conveyed the best wishes of President Joseph Nyumah Boakai. He expressed appreciation for Guterres’ consistent efforts in promoting multilateralism and global cooperation. During the meeting, Ambassador Brown also informed the Secretary General that Liberia is actively campaigning for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council in the upcoming election scheduled for June 3, 2025.
Highlighting Liberia’s extensive experience in conflict resolution, Ambassador Brown assured Guterres that the country is prepared to play a significant role in addressing the global challenges to peace and security, particularly in light of the rapidly evolving geopolitical dynamics.
