The Assets Recovery and Property Retrieval Taskforce has launched a wide-ranging probe into 26 high-profile cases involving allegations of theft, misappropriation of public assets, and acts of economic sabotage, according to Deputy Minister for Press and Public Affairs, Daniel Sando.
Speaking during a press briefing at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT), Sando confirmed that the investigations are part of the government’s ongoing effort to ensure accountability and recover stolen assets.
Among those under scrutiny is Madam Nora Finda Bondo, who, according to Sando, has opted not to participate in the investigation. In response, the Taskforce has invoked Article 21 of the 1986 Constitution of Liberia, along with Sections 2.1 and 2.3 of the country’s Criminal Procedure Law, to continue legal proceedings in her absence.
Sando also revealed that investigations involving Madam Bondo, as well as select corporate affiliates of Anita Group and Gracious Ride, have been officially concluded. This decision comes after the legal representatives of those individuals and entities informed the Taskforce of their clients’ refusal to appear for questioning.
However, the Deputy Minister clarified that probes into other individuals associated with Anita Group and Gracious Ride remain active. This development follows public comments made by Madam Mary Broh, which prompted further clarification from the Ministry regarding the ongoing investigations. The government maintains that its asset recovery drive is aimed at ensuring justice and restoring public trust in the wake of widespread allegations of corruption under the previous administration.
