Legal Action; Mary Broh Threatens APREPT

Madam Mary Broh, former Director General of the General Services Agency (GSA) and current head of the Liberia Electricity Corporation’s Power Theft Taskforce, has issued a stern warning to the Assets Recovery and Property Retrieval Taskforce (AREPT), threatening legal action if their investigation into her tenure is politically motivated.

Her warning follows a formal summons issued by AREPT on April 14, 2025, seeking her appearance to clarify issues related to a controversial rice distribution program that occurred under her leadership at the GSA.

Appearing on OK FM’s Morning Rush with host Clarence Jackson on Thursday, April 17, Broh said she would not submit to any process that lacks credibility and fairness.“

If the Assets Recovery Team plays with me, I will sue them. I am not going anywhere,” she said firmly, accusing the task force of potentially acting under political influence. While the specifics of the “rice saga” have yet to be disclosed, the program in question drew widespread attention during her tenure, with allegations surrounding procurement and distribution procedures. Broh, known for her no-nonsense approach and reform-driven style during the administrations of Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and George Manneh Weah, maintains her innocence.“

I’ve worked for this country with integrity. If anyone believes they can tarnish my name or legacy without facts, I will not hesitate to defend myself in court,” she emphasized.

Meanwhile, Broh is not the only former official under investigation. AREPT has also summoned Madam Nora Finda Bundoo, former Chief of Protocol to ex-President Weah, in connection with a separate corruption probe.

According to the task force’s April 14 communication, Bundoo is being investigated for her alleged involvement in transactions with the Anita Group of Companies and its transport affiliate, Gracious Ride. Allegations suggest the acquisition of a fleet of Suzuki vehicles through questionable means while Bundoo allegedly signed corporate documents in her capacity as a public official.

Despite being scheduled to appear before the task force at 2:30 PM on April 17, 2025, at its Paynesville headquarters, Bundoo has declined the invitation. Through her lawyer, Cllr. Abraham Wade Simpson, she has challenged the investigation’s fairness and urged AREPT to indict her if substantial evidence exists.“

The task force seems to have already concluded guilt before due process,” Cllr. Simpson noted in an April 16 letter to Task Force Chairman Cllr. Edwin Kla Martin. The Task Force has yet to officially respond to the public comments made by Broh and Bundoo.
