Liberia’s Minister of Health, Dr. Louise M. Kpoto, has been elected as the 3rd Vice President of the 78th World Health Assembly, held in Geneva, Switzerland. The announcement was made during the Assembly’s first plenary session, marking a significant milestone for Liberia’s global health leadership.
Dr. Kpoto joins a distinguished slate of officials elected to lead the Assembly, the decision-making body of the World Health Organization (WHO). The Assembly brings together health ministers and representatives from across the globe to set health policies and priorities for the international community.
Dr. Teodoro Herbosa of the Philippines was elected President of this year’s Assembly, making history as the Philippines assumes the presidency for the first time.
Other Vice Presidents elected include Professor Dr. Md. Sayedur Rahman of Bangladesh, Mr. Jaime Hernán Urrego Rodríguez of Colombia, Dr. Judit Bidlo of Hungary, and Dr. Jalila bint Al Sayyed Jawad Hassan of Bahrain.
Dr. Kpoto’s election is being hailed as a proud moment for Liberia and a recognition of her contributions to healthcare development and public health leadership.
