BUCHANAN, Grand Bassa County — In a proactive effort to address the rampant illegal sales of public lands, the Grand Bassa Land Administrator, Victor Brown, has launched a comprehensive survey of all government lands and properties throughout the county’s capital Buchanan. This initiative commenced on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, starting in the Big Joe Town Community of Buchanan City.
Administrator Brown emphasized that this survey aligns with a commitment he made upon assuming his role in Grand Bassa County. “In fulfillment of our commitment to survey all public land in Buchanan City and its environment, today, June 11, 2025, we (Liberia Land Authority) commenced our survey activities in Big Joe Town,” he stated.
The significance of this survey extends beyond mere identification of land; it aims to dismantle the illegal practices plaguing the area. Brown explained that the ongoing survey is critical for identifying public lands that have been illicitly sold by unscrupulous individuals. He highlighted that the exercise will not only impede future illegal sales but will also provide a comprehensive mapping of all government properties and lands in Buchanan and its surrounding areas.
As of now, the survey is reported to be approximately 80% complete, with Brown expressing optimism about achieving his target of a full 100% completion. He attributed the successful progress of the survey to the cooperation from local authorities and residents, offering his gratitude for their assistance throughout the operation.
Before his assignment in Grand Bassa County, Victor Brown served as a Land Administrator in Bong County, where he implemented similar initiatives to curb illegal land sales. His tenure in Bong also included the successful establishment of the county’s official land administration office in Gbarnga, further bolstering his reputation as a diligent advocate for land rights and proper management.
As the survey continues, both officials and community members are closely monitoring its outcomes, hopeful that this initiative will restore integrity to land transactions in Grand Bassa County and protect public interests in the face of illegal activities. The Land Authority’s commitment to ensuring the proper administration of land resources remains steadfast as the survey progresses toward its conclusion.
