Gbarnga, Bong County – In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), Bong County Detachment, has incinerated a substantial quantity of illegal drugs valued at over L$10.5 million (approximately US$55,292.39), marking a strong stand against substance abuse in the county. The destruction of these drugs took place on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at Taylor’s Farm, located in Electoral District #3.
Deputy Commander Lewis N. Geelar of the Bong County Detachment reported that the drugs were confiscated in various operations throughout the county between June 4, 2024, and June 2025. The operation highlights the LDEA’s ongoing commitment to combat drug-related crimes and protect the community from the dangers of illegal substances.
During the burning ceremony, Commander Geelar provided a detailed breakdown of the confiscated drugs, noting that 1,145.2 grams of Kush, valued at L$4,351,760 (US$22,904), 130.3 grams of Cocaine valued at L$1,333,800 (US$7,020), and Heroin: 260.4 grams of Heroin valued at L$2,247,795 (US$11,830.50) were destroyed. Others include 103.8 kilograms of Marijuana valued at L$10,380,000 (US$1,972,200), 30 packs of Tramadol valued at L$600,000 (US$3,157.89).
The burning ceremony attracted notable attendance, including representatives from the Armed Forces of Liberia, the Liberia Immigration Service, the Liberia Fire Service, and various local leaders. These community members expressed their support for the LDEA’s vigorous actions against drug trafficking, commending the agency’s efforts to enhance public safety.
“We remain robust in the fight against the sale and intake of harmful substances in the county,” stated Deputy Commander Geelar. His remarks underscore the LDEA’s resolve to not only combat current drug trafficking but also to prevent future violations.
