GBARNGA, BONG — Following an investigative report by Verity Online News, disclosing an alleged sex scandal by a classroom teacher identified as Julius Sevelee, alias “Chemical J,” against a female student at the Nathaniel Varney Massaquoi High School in Gbarnga, Bong County, the Ministry of Education (MOE) has, with immediate effect, suspended teacher Sevelee, pending final investigative report
The suspension, communicated through Bong County Education Officer David Boakai, is effective immediately and will remain in place pending investigations over the next five days.
Sevelee faces accusations of engaging in a sexual relationship with a student, which has reportedly led to her pregnancy. The situation was initially brought to light following a complaint from the girl’s father, who alleged that Sevelee had raped his daughter. This claim prompted an investigation by the Liberia National Police’s Bong Detachment, during which Sevelee asserted his innocence and was cleared of the rape allegations.
However, the matter escalated when the father extended the complaint to Gbarnga School District Education Officer (DEO) Mr. P. Kohnkahn Cole, and CEO Boakai, resulting in a secondary investigation that culminated in Sevelee’s suspension. The official suspension letter, dated July 25, 2025, cites a violation of section 6.3.1.2(d) of the Ministry’s code of conduct, which explicitly prohibits teachers or school administrators from engaging in sexual relationships with enrolled students.
The letter also warns Sevelee against entering the school premises or interacting with any students or staff, stating that any violation could lead to further disciplinary measures from the Ministry.
In light of these developments, Sevelee has expressed his understanding of the Ministry’s decision while advocating for an impartial investigation. “I fully recognize and support the Ministry’s mandate to uphold the highest standards of discipline and integrity within the educational sector,” he stated.
Sevelee maintains his innocence and emphasized the importance of a fair investigation, remarking, “This suspension provides the appropriate space for a thorough and impartial investigation. I, therefore, humbly plead that the ongoing investigation be conducted void of bias, prejudice, or external influence, so that truth and justice may prevail.”
He has pledged to cooperate fully with the Ministry and relevant authorities throughout the investigative process, indicating his hope that it will be guided by facts and fairness.
As the investigation unfolds, the community awaits further clarity on the serious allegations against Sevelee and the subsequent actions by the Ministry of Education.
