MONROVIA — Former Speaker and Chairman of the Steering Committee overseeing the return of former President George Manneh Weah, Bhofal Chambers, has launched a blistering attack on the Boakai administration, accusing the government of political policing, selective justice, and dividing Liberians along party lines.
Speaking Sunday at a press conference at the CDC District Office in Plumkor, Chambers said President Joseph Nyuma Boakai must demonstrate “presidential courage” and address what he described as Liberia’s declining condition.
“The country is in decline. President Boakai has a country to govern. We expected the best, yet we are seeing the worst,” Chambers said.
Chambers accused the Liberia National Police of practicing what he described as political policing and warned against what he called selective justice.
“You cannot say Unity Party people will have immunity whenever they commit any act. We must balance,” he said.
He also questioned the Inspector General of Police Gregory Coleman over alleged statements concerning the involvement of senior state actors in the ongoing drugs case.
Chambers further raised concerns about the arrest of former Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor, arguing that the action undermined due process if it was carried out without a warrant and sufficient evidence.
In another sharp attack, Chambers declared that the current Inspector General of Police has “outlived his usefulness,” calling for police leadership that is “unblemished” and free from political influence.
As former President George Weah prepares to return to Liberia on Wednesday, September 2, Chambers called on the government to provide maximum security for the former President and his supporters.
“Give former President Weah the corridor. He is coming in peace,” Chambers said.
He called on CDCians and other Liberians to peacefully converge at the airport and Jamaica resort to give the former President a rousing welcome.
“We cannot divide this country. We cannot have a Unity Party group and the other people group. Liberia is for all of us,” Chambers declared.
