Monrovia, Liberia, July 26, 2025 – The Ministry of Health has announced the launch of the Periodic Intensification of Routine Immunization (PIRI) campaign, set to run from July 28 to August 1, 2025, across all 15 counties of Liberia.
The initiative targets approximately 20,000 children under the age of two, many of whom have missed routine vaccinations—particularly in hard-to-reach and underserved areas.
The PIRI campaign is part of the Ministry’s intensified efforts to boost immunization coverage, especially for zero-dose and under-immunized children.
According to the Ministry release, this population is at heightened risk of vaccine-preventable diseases due to disruptions in routine health services or limited access to healthcare facilities.
“Our goal is to leave no child behind,” said the Director of the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI). “This campaign is not just about numbers—it’s about equity and ensuring that children in every corner of the country, no matter how remote, are protected.”
Key objectives of the PIRI drive include:
Increasing the uptake of routine childhood vaccines
Strengthening follow-up and defaulter tracking systems
Reducing missed vaccination opportunities at health facilities and outreach sessions
Enhancing community-level awareness and participation
The Ministry is calling on all parents and caregivers to take advantage of this opportunity by visiting nearby health centers or outreach sites to ensure their children are vaccinated.
Partners supporting the campaign include international and local health organizations under the national EPI framework.
With Liberia continuing its efforts toward universal health coverage, this PIRI round stands as a critical intervention to close immunization gaps and safeguard the nation’s children from life-threatening diseases.
