Bong County, Liberia – In a significant disciplinary action, four officers of the Liberia National Police (LNP) have been suspended, including Bong County Police Commander Farsue V. Sheriff, due to various administrative breaches.
Commander Sheriff received a one-month suspension for failing to manage traffic effectively while the presidential convoy was returning from the reburial of former President Samuel K. Doe and his wife. Reports indicate that he allowed commercial and private vehicles to intrude into the convoy’s path during the nighttime transit from Grand Gedeh to Monrovia, resulting in severe congestion and raising major security concerns.
Additionally, three senior officers were suspended in connection with a recent burglary at Joma’s Business Center in Gbarnga. James Kartoe, the Crime Services Division (CSD) Commander, and Foster Varney, Deputy Police Commander for Administration, both faced one-month suspensions. Kartoe was penalized for poor supervision of the CSD, while Varney was disciplined for failing to intervene when a suspect in the burglary was reportedly ordered released.
Patrick Sandolo, Deputy Commander for Crime Services, received a three-month suspension for allegedly directing the release of a burglary suspect. Although he may be reassigned, Sandolo will no longer serve in his previous role.
The suspensions took effect on August 1, 2025. In the interim, Police Chief of Operations Chris Gono has assumed command of the Liberia National Police-Bong Detachment as the department navigates these administrative changes.
