Nimba County – A fresh wave of political tension is brewing in Nimba County as newly elected Representative of District #5, Kortor Kwagrue, is calling for a broader audit that includes the Legislative Support Projects (LSP) and district development funds—projects linked to sitting Senator Samuel G. Kogar during his time in the House of Representatives.
The call comes after Senator Kogar publicly advocated for an audit of the Nimba County administration, a move Representative Kwagrue says he supports—but with a strong condition.
In a statement released Wednesday morning, Rep. Kwagrue expressed agreement with the senator’s call for transparency but insisted the audit must not stop with the county administration alone.
“I listened to Senator Samuel G. Kogar speaking about auditing the county administration. In my mind, he is right,” Kwagrue stated. “But the audit should not be limited to the county administration. It should include the Legislative Support Project (LSP) and district project funds which were created by members of the 53rd House of Representatives.”
Kwagrue pointed out that many projects under the LSP remain “by name or are non-existent,” raising concerns over possible mismanagement or misuse of funds by legislators, including those who served in the 53rd Legislature.
“It is still uncertain to many of us across the county whether the LSP funds were being used for their intended purpose or were being used unilaterally by members of the legislature without the consent of the constituency they represent,” Kwagrue added.
Senator Kogar, who served as Representative for District #5 in the 53rd Legislature before ascending to the Senate, played a central role during the time the LSP was established. Kwagrue’s statement is seen by many as a direct challenge to Kogar’s own political legacy and could deepen the growing divide between the two Nimba County leaders.
The controversy comes at a time when citizens across the county have been demanding greater transparency in how public funds are managed and disbursed. The call for a comprehensive audit is likely to resonate with residents who have long questioned the visibility and impact of development projects supposedly funded by legislative allotments.
It remains to be seen how Senator Kogar will respond to the challenge. Political observers say the feud could signal the start of a broader reckoning over public accountability in one of Liberia’s most politically active counties.
