Margibi County, Liberia ~ Frustration boiled over on Saturday, September 6, 2025, as workers of the Time Royal Ambassador Hotel in Margibi County staged a peaceful “go-slow” protest, demanding the immediate payment of three months’ salary arrears.
The aggrieved employees accused hotel management of issuing them invalid cheques and failing to provide any concrete plan for settling their overdue wages.
Jallah Bundoe, head of the hotel’s engineering department, told reporters that the workers’ patience has run out. According to Bundoe, management issued them cheques bearing only a single signature, which were later rejected by GTCO Bank.
“The management is playing fun out of us,” Bundoe said. “They know very well the cheques aren’t valid but gave them to us. It was embarrassing for us in Monrovia today.”
The workers say they have repeatedly contacted both the district lawmaker and the county labor commissioner, but have yet to receive any solution “even though they’ve intervened”.
In an attempt to deescalate tensions, the Office of Margibi District #2 Representative Ivar Jones intervened during the protest. Emmanuel Johnnie, Chief of Office Staff to Rep. Jones, acknowledged the workers’ frustrations and appealed to them to remain calm.
“I have been working in line with the aggrieved workers to help resolve this issue, but it seems their patience has run out and I think they’re right,” Johnnie said.
Johnnie further assured the protesting workers that the matter would be addressed early next week.
“Since they’ve said Monday is the deadline, kindly go home and come back on Monday so we can settle this once and for all,” he pleaded.
All efforts to reach the management yielded fruitless as workers alleged the escaped the hotel’s senior management.
