LNP Confiscates Marijuana Worth Over $9,000 in New Zoe Community

The Liberia National Police (LNP) has seized a large quantity of marijuana valued at over $9,000 USD in the New Zoe community, District #5, Montserrado County.

The operation was conducted by officers of the Police Support Unit (PSU) around 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 16, 2025.

According to police officials, the illicit substances were discovered abandoned along the roadside shortly after being offloaded from an unidentified vehicle.

Deputy Chief of Operations, identified by unit code 105, reported that the marijuana was concealed in rice bags and packed into cages. The haul consisted of over 126 packages, each reportedly weighing 80 kilograms.

Our patrol team arrived at the scene shortly after the vehicle had offloaded the bags. Unfortunately, we were unable to apprehend any suspects or identify the vehicle involved,” the Deputy Chief stated.

During a formal handover ceremony at LNP Headquarters, Police Spokesperson Cecelia Clark officially turned over the confiscated substances to Deputy Commander-in-Charge of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), Ernest Tarpeh.

Tarpeh directed his team to count and weigh the contents, which were later given a wholesale street value of $76 USD amounting to more than $9,000 USD.

This is a major seizure, and we commend the LNP for their swift action,” said Tarpeh. “However, no individuals have been linked to the consignment at this time. Investigations are ongoing.”

He added that the marijuana will be transported to LDEA headquarters and will be destroyed in accordance with the agency’s protocols on the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

Authorities are appealing to the public to come forward with any information that could lead to the identification and arrest of those involved in the trafficking of the illegal substances.
