Kakata, Margibi County ~ In a move aimed at promoting sanitation and environmental cleanliness, Firestone Liberia, a multimillion-dollar rubber company, has donated a number of empty drums to the Kakata City Corporation (KCC).
According to the City Communication Office, the donation is in direct support of Kakata’s ongoing cleanliness initiatives and is expected to boost efforts to keep the city clean and well-organized.
The donation follows a formal request made by Kakata City Mayor Gbarngawoe E. Seyboe, who highlighted the city’s urgent need for materials to support large-scale cleaning campaigns across various communities.
Firestone Liberia, which operates the largest rubber plantation in West Africa and has been present in Liberia since 1926, has also distributed similar empty drums within its plantation areas to support proper waste disposal and environmental hygiene.
Mayor Seyboe expressed gratitude to Firestone Liberia, calling the gesture a meaningful step in fostering collaboration between corporate entities and local government in addressing urban challenges.
As thousands of Margibians continue to reside in and around Kakata, city officials say such partnerships are crucial in maintaining a healthy and livable environment.
But what do you think about this donation? Is it a commendable act of corporate social responsibility or a symbolic gesture that falls short of addressing deeper issues?
