The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) has arrested a 70-year-old woman, identified as Mrs. Lucy S. Morris, for alleged drug trafficking following a targeted operation in West Point, one of Monrovia’s most densely populated communities.
According to the LDEA, the operation, carried out by its Special Drug Squad, was based on a credible tip-off and led to the confiscation of a significant quantity of KUSH, an illicit narcotic, valued at over L$1 million.
The drugs were reportedly hidden in nine small mineral water bottles.
The suspect is currently undergoing investigation and will be forwarded to court under the Amended Controlled Drugs and Substances Act of 2023, the Agency confirmed.
In a statement, the LDEA reaffirmed its commitment to disrupting drug trafficking networks and warned that traffickers are increasingly using motorcycles and tricycles (kekehs) to move illicit substances in an effort to bypass law enforcement detection.
The Agency urged the public to remain alert and report any suspicious activities, pledging to continue aggressive, intelligence-led operations across the country to combat the growing drug threat.
