Monrovia Mayor, NPA, and Foreign Delegates Discuss Solutions to Coastal Threats

Monrovia, Liberia – Monrovia City Mayor, John-Charuk Siafa, held a productive meeting with representatives from the National Port Authority (NPA) and a delegation of engineers and officials from Mozambique, the Netherlands, and Morocco.

The meeting focused on addressing the challenges facing the city’s coastal infrastructure, particularly in light of the severe threat posed by coastal erosion.

Mayor Siafa highlighted the vulnerability of key facilities, including the John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital, the Freeport, and the Executive Mansion, which are situated along the coast.

He emphasized the urgent need for solutions to mitigate the impact of coastal erosion, which poses a significant threat to the city’s infrastructure and development progress.

The meeting also touched on the city’s waste management challenges and the need for improvement.

Mayor Siafa outlined the city’s goals, including protecting critical infrastructure, enhancing waste management, and strengthening the road network.

The international delegation, comprising representatives from the African Fifth Institution in Mozambique and environmental and social consultants, expressed their appreciation for the discussion and interest in exploring potential partnership opportunities to support the city’s development initiatives.

The meeting aimed to identify areas of collaboration and investment to address the city’s pressing challenges.
