Liberia’s Natural Capital Atlas Opens Doors to Green Investment

By Archie Boan

Liberia is set to make history on the global climate stage with the launch of The Natural Capital Atlas of Liberia at the 30th Conference of Parties (COP30) in Belém, Brazil.

Developed by the Government of Liberia through the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the groundbreaking publication highlights the country’s rich biodiversity, promotes eco-tourism, and seeks to attract sustainable investment.

The Atlas, the first of its kind for Liberia, blends scientific research, community perspectives, and striking visuals to showcase the nation’s natural heritage, from its lush rainforests and pristine rivers to its diverse wildlife and geological wonders. It is complemented by an immersive documentary titled “Liberia: The Natural Beauty and Wonders, a Crown for the World COP30 and beyond.”

Spearheaded by Dr. Emmanuel K. Urey Yarkpawolo, Executive Director of the EPA, and developed in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Forestry Development Authority, and the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism, the Atlas serves as a vital tool for conservation, green growth, and climate diplomacy.

According to the EPA, the Atlas aligns with Liberia’s commitments under the Paris Agreement, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and President Joseph Boakai’s ARREST Agenda, reflecting the nation’s resolve to achieve economic growth while protecting the environment.

On November 10, 2025, at Liberia’s Pavilion during COP30, the government will unveil both the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) 3.0 and the Natural Capital Atlas, marking a unified approach to climate action and sustainable development.

The launch will feature documentary excerpts, a live presentation of the Atlas, and panel discussions with global partners, environmental experts, and potential investors.

Hon. Dehpue Y. Zuo, Deputy Minister for Economic Management at the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, who will lead Liberia’s high-level delegation to COP30, described the initiative as “a transformative opportunity to position Liberia as a global leader in biodiversity conservation and climate resilience.”

The Natural Capital Atlas is more than a conservation resource-it is an open invitation for investors, scientists, and travelers to engage with Liberia’s natural wealth in ways that are sustainable, responsible, and future-focused.
