Foreign Gunmen Suspected in Deadly Cavalla River Attack

By D. Abraham Cooper Sr.

A grave and deeply unsettling incident has rocked the border community of Zabah Town, Grand Gedeh County, following the reported killing of a local resident in what officials describe as a suspected cross-border attack.

According to preliminary reports, Roland Gwayee, a resident of Zabah Town, was killed in an alleged armed incursion by unidentified assailants believed to have crossed into Liberian territory from neighboring Ivory Coast.

Authorities say the incident, which occurred on November 11, 2025, has reignited long-standing concerns about security and stability along the Cavalla River, a porous boundary separating Liberia and the Ivory Coast.

In response to the tragedy, both local officials and community leaders have appealed for calm and restraint, urging residents not to take matters into their own hands.

“This incident underscores the urgent need for calm and unity,” one local leader said. “Residents are mandated to remain peaceful while a full and rigorous investigation is launched. Every measure is being taken to ensure justice is sought for the victim.”

Law enforcement and security agencies have reportedly been deployed to the area to restore order and begin investigations into the source and motive of the attack.

The alleged cross-border assault has sparked renewed scrutiny of border security protocols, with authorities pledging tighter monitoring and stronger coordination between Liberian and Ivorian security forces.

Local observers warn that the incident could heighten tensions among border communities already grappling with issues of insecurity, illegal crossings, and limited law enforcement presence.

As the investigation unfolds, officials emphasize that maintaining peace remains the top priority, even as the nation mourns the loss of one of its citizens in what is now being described as a foreign armed incursion on Liberian soil.
