CAF, LFA begun First-Ever CAF ‘D’ License Coaching Course for Women in Rivercess

Cestos City, Rivercess County – The Liberia Football Association (LFA), in partnership with the Confederation of African Football (CAF), on Thursday, November 20, 2025, started the first-ever CAF License ‘D’ coaching course in Rivercess County.

The eight-day training brings together 20 female participants from schools and communities, marking the county’s first formal coaching certification program for women under CAF standards. The initiative aims to strengthen grassroots football and empower women to take up leadership roles in coaching.

Providing an overview of the course, lead facilitator Kelvin Kie Sebwe encouraged participants to embrace the long-term pathway ahead, noting that the CAF License ‘D’ is only the beginning. “Once you do the D, you must come to C, then B, and then A. You need to aspire for something,” he said. Sebwe emphasized that the ‘D’ License equips coaches with proper documentation, structure, and internationally recognized coaching methods.

Sebwe stressed CAF’s commitment to increasing female representation in coaching across the continent. “Most of the time men are coaching women, but things are changing now. We want to encourage female coaches. The lessons you’re getting are accepted not only in Liberia but across Africa. With your D-License, you can coach in any African country,” he assured.

He called on participants to take the training seriously, remain interactive, and build confidence. “Do not be shy. This is something you chose and something you love. We are here to work together so you can achieve your goals,” Sebwe added, highlighting CAF’s shift from traditional instruction toward a more engaging, educator-style approach.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Daniel Frandoe, Chairman of the Rivercess Sub-Association of the LFA, expressed excitement over the historic program. He praised the LFA leadership for extending such opportunities to Rivercess, noting that the county has often been left out of national football development initiatives.

“To me, this is a good thing for the people of Rivercess. Everything that happens in the LFA doesn’t normally reach here, but under this administration, I believe the county is now on the map,” Frandoe said. He described it as his first time seeing LFA coaches come specifically to train female coaches for 10 schools and 10 communities within the county.

Frandoe encouraged young girls, students and community members alike to embrace the opportunity and become part of the growing female football movement in Rivercess. “Even if you are not a student, once you live in the community, you can join. Tomorrow, this will be yours,” he said.

The training is expected to conclude with participants receiving official CAF ‘D’ coaching diplomas, certifying them as licensed grassroots coaches capable of contributing to the development of women’s football both in Rivercess and beyond.
