Nimba Students Make Historic Journey To Natipnal Girls Summit 2025

Monrovia, Liberia — November 21, 2025

In a milestone for girls’ empowerment and rural education, eleven female students from Nimba County District #9 have arrived in Monrovia to participate in the National Girls Summit 2025 an opportunity many described as both life-changing and inspiring.

The students, drawn from Zekeh High School and Varmie Memorial High School, were selected through a partnership between District #9 Representative Taa Wongbe and Teach For Liberia, a nonprofit committed to expanding access to quality education across the country. For several of the girls, the journey marked their first-ever trip outside Nimba, symbolizing a new chapter in exposure and leadership development.

Upon their arrival, the students paid a courtesy visit to Rep. Wongbe at the Capitol Building. Welcoming them warmly, the lawmaker urged the young women to stay committed to their academic and leadership ambitions.

“You are the future of this country,” Rep. Wongbe told the students. “Your voice matters, and your dreams are valid.”

Rep. Wongbe then led the group on a tour of the House of Representatives Chamber, where they met the Speaker, Deputy Speaker, and several lawmakers. The students described the experience as “eye-opening,” saying it deepened their understanding of national governance and motivated them to envision themselves in positions of influence.

The Nimba lawmaker praised Teach For Liberia for its continued efforts to promote educational equity and pledged ongoing support for initiatives that uplift young women.

“This is not just about attending one summit,” he emphasized. “It’s about building a pipeline of confident, capable female leaders who will shape the future of Nimba and Liberia.”

The National Girls Summit 2025 brings together students from across the country for mentorship, capacity building, and dialogue on issues affecting girls. For the eleven young women from Nimba, the journey marks not just participation but the beginning of a broader movement to empower rural girls to lead.
