Monrovia – The General Auditing Commission (GAC) has announced the completion and publication of 34 audit reports covering donor-funded development projects financed by the World Bank, the African Development Bank (AfDB), and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), marking a significant step toward strengthening transparency and accountability in the management of public resources.
According to the GAC, the audits were completed and published since June 30, 2026, and examined the financial management and implementation of donor-funded projects across several government ministries, agencies, and commissions. The projects span key sectors including infrastructure, agriculture, energy, health, education, fisheries, water, finance, commerce, and youth development.
Among the audited projects are the Liberia Investment, Finance and Trade Project (LIFT-P), the Renewable Energy for Electrification in Liberia (REEL), the Liberia Renewable Energy Access Project (LIRENAP), the Mano River Union Road Development Transport Facility Programme, the Fish Town-Harper Road Project, the Liberia Urban Resilience Project, and several agriculture initiatives under the Ministry of Agriculture.
Other audits covered projects under the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC), the Ministry of Health, the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC), the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA), and the Ministry of Education.
The Commission disclosed that one remaining donor-funded project audit, financed by GAVI, the Vaccine Alliance, is expected to be completed and published within the next two weeks.
GAC noted that the donor-supported projects collectively disburse approximately US$300 million annually, underscoring the importance of effective oversight. The Commission said the audits are intended to ensure transparency and accountability in the use of donor resources while validating that approved project activities and deliverables were implemented in accordance with funding agreements.
Meanwhile, the Auditor General announced that the Commission has shifted its focus to conducting statutory audits of government ministries, agencies, and commissions, along with selected special audits. The exercise aims to regularize the audit status of most Government of Liberia institutions up to Fiscal Year 2024 by December 2026.
The GAC reaffirmed its commitment to promoting sound public financial management, strengthening accountability, and enhancing public confidence in the management of both donor and government resources.
