Former Superintendent of Nimba County and longtime stalwart of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), Fong Zuagele, says he regrets ever joining the ruling party and is now preparing to cross over to the Unity Party (UP).
In a statement released ahead of his formal declaration, Zuagele described his decision to leave the CDC as a correction of past political missteps.
“We’re coming home — Unity Party.
We erred… We’re sorry…
We Think, Build, and Love Liberia.
Dec. 6, 2025; a new beginning — full blast,” he said.
Zuagele is expected to officially join the Unity Party on December 6, marking what he called a “new beginning” in his political journey. His defection adds to the list of prominent figures who have shifted allegiances as Liberia’s political landscape continues to evolve ahead of future national contests.
Political observers say Zuagele’s move could influence political dynamics in Nimba County, a key battleground with significant electoral weight. The CDC has not yet issued an official response to his announcement.
