Fire Engulfs STAND Office Ahead of Planned Protest

By: Archie Boan

Just days before its planned December 17 protest, the national headquarters of Solidarity for Trust and A New Day (STAND) was reportedly set ablaze under circumstances that remain unclear.

Mulbah K. Morlu, lead organizer of the upcoming protest, has dismissed claims of an electrical fault, insisting instead that the fire was “deliberately initiated” by individuals he alleges are supporters of the ruling establishment.

According to Morlu, the blaze was preceded by multiple attempts by unidentified masked men who, he says, attacked the security guard assigned to the building. He noted that the earlier incidents were reported to the Liberia National Police (LNP) Zone Three Depot but were “not taken seriously” until the tragic burning of the movement’s headquarters.

Morlu said he remains open to a full investigation by the Liberia National Fire Service and the LNP to determine the actual cause of the fire. However, he emphasized that the incident will no tderail the December 17 protest.

“This will not stop us. We are moving forward,” Morlu declared, calling on major opposition leaders to “stand up now before it’s too late.”

The cause of the fire has not yet been independently confirmed, and authorities have not issued an official statement at press time.
