The Liberia Football Association (LFA) has handed a five-year ban to Benita W. Urey, President of Shaita Angels FC, after finding her culpable in the manipulation of a match during the 2024/25 LFA First Division League season.
The sanction was imposed following a decision by the LFA Grievance and Disciplinary Committee, which concluded an investigation into a controversial league fixture between Shaita Angels FC and Paynesville FC. The match raised serious concerns about sporting integrity and prompted a formal probe by the association.
In its ruling released on Thursday, the committee stated that Urey violated provisions of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, specifically Part II, Chapter 2, Articles 20 (1 and 3), which prohibit the manipulation of football matches and competitions.
The committee cited Urey’s senior leadership position within Shaita Angels FC and her direct involvement in the scheme as aggravating factors, describing the offense as grave and damaging to the credibility of the league. As part of the sanction, Urey is barred from all football-related activities —both administrative and sporting — for five years.
She is also prohibited from entering any football stadium during the suspension period.
The LFA said the penalty reflects its zero-tolerance policy on match-fixing and reaffirms its commitment to protecting the integrity of football in Liberia.
“The association will continue to take decisive action against any individual or entity whose actions undermine the credibility of the game,” the LFA said, emphasizing its determination to uphold fair play across all competitions.
