EPA Hosts IMF Mission to Strengthen Liberia’s Climate Resilience

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on Wednesday hosted a high-level delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF) Mission for a strategic engagement with the Agency’s Senior Management Team, aimed at reinforcing Liberia’s climate resilience and environmental governance framework.

The meeting focused on a wide range of critical issues, including recent EPA activities and inter-agency coordination efforts, climate-related shocks and national adaptation policies, as well as progress on Liberia’s national climate assessment.

Discussions also centered on disaster risk financing, with particular emphasis on budgetary mechanisms designed to strengthen the country’s preparedness and response to climate-related risks.

Participants highlighted the growing impact of climate change on Liberia’s economy, infrastructure, and vulnerable communities, underscoring the importance of sound environmental policies and sustainable financing strategies to mitigate risks and promote long-term resilience.

The IMF RSF Mission commended the EPA for its ongoing efforts in environmental protection and climate policy coordination, while reaffirming the Fund’s support for Liberia’s reform agenda under the Resilience and Sustainability Facility.

For its part, the EPA reiterated its commitment to working closely with international partners, including the IMF, to advance sustainable environmental management, enhance climate adaptation measures, and ensure that Liberia remains on a path toward inclusive and environmentally resilient development.

The engagement forms part of broader national and international efforts to integrate climate considerations into macroeconomic planning and strengthen Liberia’s capacity to withstand future climate shocks.
