Court Denies and Dismisses Aquittal Bid of Defendant Peter Bon Jallah

MONROVIA, LIBERIA — The trial of 63-year-old Peter Bon Jallah will continue after Criminal Court “E” for Montserrado County denied his request for an early acquittal.

Assigned Circuit Judge His Honor Wesseh Alphonsus Wesseh, Sr. ruled on Wednesday, September 30, that the prosecution’s evidence was not insufficient to justify ending the case at this stage. The court subsequently denied and dismissed Jallah’s Motion for Judgment of Acquittal.

The ruling clears the way for the defense to present its evidence as the trial moves into its next phase. Jallah is expected to testify on Thursday, October 1, 2026, during the proceedings.

Jallah has opted for a bench trial, meaning the case will be decided by the judge rather than a jury.

He faces charges of sodomy, gang rape, statutory rape, and kidnapping in connection with allegations involving a 16-year-old male.
