Justice Denied? Sodomy Victim Accuses Gender Ministry

By Archie Boan

A desperate plea for justice is echoing across Liberia after a 15-year-old boy was allegedly sodomized by a former National Security Agency (NSA) operative and two other men an attack so brutal that the victim now struggles to eat, sleep, or function normally. Yet, despite the gravity of the crime, the boy’s mother says the very government agency tasked with protecting vulnerable children has vanished without a trace.

In an emotional and tearful interview, the mother, herself unemployed and raising her son alone accused the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection of failing to provide even basic support since the incident occurred weeks ago. She claims ministry agents made promises they never kept and have since gone silent, leaving her traumatized child without medical follow-up, psychological care, or legal advocacy.

“They came once,” she said, voice trembling. “We went to the scene together. They told me, ‘We’ll go talk to our big people and come back.’ But they never returned. Nothing. Not a call. Not a visit. Meanwhile, strange people who don’t even work for the government are showing more concern than the Ministry that owns this case.”

The survivor reportedly suffers from severe psychological distress. “He can’t eat the hospital food,” his mother explained. “Not biscuits, not anything. There’s too much soul inside him too much pain from what those men did.”

The mother directly questioned whether powerful connections are shielding the accused. “Are they happy about what happened to my son?” she asked. “Do they want this man to walk free? Or will they treat this like the Bryant McGill case where nothing ever happened?”

Despite repeated attempts, the Ministry of Gender’s Communications Unit declined to comment on the allegations, citing only that “the media has previously reported stories of allegations against the Ministry of Justice.” This response has drawn sharp criticism from human rights advocates.
