Tappita, Nimba County – The Jackson F. Doe Memorial Regional Referral Hospital in Tappita, Nimba County, has unveiled a 650KVA standby generator, a development expected to significantly improve uninterrupted healthcare service delivery at the facility.
The generator, officially commissioned on Friday, January 23, 2026, marks a major milestone for the hospital, which has faced persistent electricity challenges for more than eight years. Power instability had previously disrupted critical services, including emergency care, surgical operations, laboratory diagnostics, and maternal health services.
Speaking during the unveiling ceremony, the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Victor Kaizer, said the project aligns with the Government of Liberia’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development and is being implemented through the Public Sector Investment Project (PSIP).
Dr. Kaizer praised the Government of Liberia, led by President Joseph Nyumah Boakai, Sr., and the Ministry of Health for their support, noting that the generator is part of broader efforts to upgrade the Jackson F. Doe Memorial Hospital into a fully functional tertiary referral institution.
“This investment is intended to strengthen the healthcare system, reduce the need for costly foreign medical referrals, and ensure that Jackson F. Doe Hospital assumes its rightful role as Liberia’s second referral hospital,” Dr. Kaizer said.
He further explained that PSIP-backed interventions at the hospital are aimed at improving specialized medical services, expanding diagnostic capacity, and strengthening emergency response systems, thereby easing the burden on patients who previously sought advanced care outside the country.
The newly installed generator will provide continuous power to critical units, including operating theaters, emergency and maternity wards, intensive care units, and laboratories, ensuring round-the-clock service delivery and improved patient safety.
Hospital management reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with the Government of Liberia and development partners to fully implement PSIP objectives and deliver quality, affordable, and accessible healthcare services to residents of Nimba County and beyond.
Located in Tappita, the Jackson F. Doe Memorial Regional Referral Hospital is one of Liberia’s leading public healthcare institutions. It serves as a major referral center for Nimba, Grand Gedeh, Maryland, Bong, and neighboring counties, and plays a vital role in the country’s national health system and ongoing health sector reforms.
