The Student Council Government of the Firestone Senior High School in Margibi County was formally inducted into office on Friday, January 23, 2026, during a colorful ceremony held on the school’s campus. The newly elected student leaders are expected to regulate and coordinate student activities in collaboration with the school administration throughout the academic year.
Delivering the keynote address at the induction ceremony, renowned Liberian journalist Emmanuel Kangar, representing the Chief Executive Officer of the Siakeh Foundation, Mr. Thur Siakeh, challenged the incoming leadership to embrace selfless and student-centered leadership as a pathway to success.
Kangar emphasized that leadership is a responsibility built on service rather than authority.
“The real bosses are the students who elected every one of you,” Kangar told the newly inducted officials. He urged the student leaders to respect and listen to their peers, noting that respect given would be reciprocated.
According to him, leadership that prioritizes the welfare and voices of students creates unity and progress within any academic institution.
Kangar, known nationally for his advocacy against bad governance and social injustice, also encouraged students to see Firestone Senior High School as one of Liberia’s leading secondary institutions. He inspired them to remain focused on their studies and work hard to uphold and strengthen the school’s legacy of excellence.
Speaking on the theme “Leadership,” Kangar creatively broke down the word into “Leader” and “Ship,” explaining that effective leadership requires cooperation, collaboration, and shared responsibility among all stakeholders within an institution or organization.
In his inaugural address, the newly inducted Student Council President, Watson Gbokakollie, pledged to work closely with fellow students and the school administration for the overall development of Firestone Senior High School. He promised to promote open communication, transparency, and accountability throughout his tenure.
Gbokakollie further stated that his leadership is committed to building a student council that reflects excellence in academics, discipline, and unity, with the aim of making Firestone Senior High School a model institution.
Activities leading up to the induction ceremony included an inter-school debate, quiz competition, and a football match against neighboring St. Pius X Catholic High School. Firestone Senior High School emerged victorious in all events, adding excitement to the celebration.
The program was attended by several educational stakeholders in Margibi County, Firestone Management, members of the Alumni Association, and other invited guests, all of whom commended the school for promoting leadership and student engagement.
