Public Works, Partners Launch Two-Day WASH Assessment Training in Rivercess County

Cestos City, Rivercess County — The Ministry of Public Works, in collaboration with development partners, has officially launched a two-day Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Assessment Training in Cestos City, Rivercess County, aimed at strengthening data collection and water quality monitoring across the district.

Providing an overview of the training, George Kaine of Last Mile Health explained that participants are being trained to use mobile phones and other digital tools to conduct WASH assessments within communities.

According to Kaine, the exercise is designed to improve the accuracy and efficiency of data collection on water sources and sanitation conditions.

He disclosed that by the end of the second day of the training, teams will receive detailed movement plans and logistical support for their field deployment.

He urged participants to work collaboratively and avoid unnecessary confrontation during the exercise, emphasizing that any concerns should be addressed peacefully to allow for timely adjustments.

Following the training, field activities are scheduled to run from February 4 to February 12, covering the Central Rivercess Statutory District.

During this period, teams will be deployed to assigned communities to begin data and water sample collection. Upon arrival, the teams will rest and commence full-scale operations the following day.

The assessment teams have been divided into two groups. One group will collect data using digital forms to document information on each water source, while the second group will collect water samples from the same locations for quality testing.

This dual approach is expected to generate both technical and community-level insights into water conditions across the district.

Kaine further disclosed that a draft narrative report from the assessment is expected by February 20. Following review and finalization, the findings will be presented to county authorities to inform future interventions in water and sanitation in Central Rivercess District.
