Yellow Machines to Create 1,300 Jobs Nationwide-Samukai Hails Initiative as ‘Game Changer’ for Rural Development

Monrovia — The Chairman of the Special Presidential Steering Committee on the Yellow Machines Initiative, Brownie J. Samukai, has described the government’s Yellow Machines Program as a transformative intervention poised to accelerate national development and create more than 1,300 jobs across Liberia.

Appearing on the Prime Morning Drive on Prime FM 105.5 in Monrovia on 2 March, the former Defense Minister said the initiative is already making a tangible impact by rehabilitating major roads, improving drainage systems, and opening farm-to-market routes in counties long challenged by poor infrastructure.

According to Samukai, the heavy-duty earth-moving equipment deployed under the program is more than just machinery.

“These machines are not just equipment; they are tools of opportunity,” he said. “When roads are accessible, farmers can transport their produce to market, businesses can expand, and entire communities can experience economic growth.”

1,342 Jobs Across 15 Counties

Samukai disclosed that the Yellow Machines Initiative is expected to generate approximately 1,342 direct jobs nationwide, with each of Liberia’s 15 counties employing about 63 operators and assistants.

He emphasized that recruitment efforts will prioritize local residents, ensuring that counties directly benefit from both improved infrastructure and expanded employment opportunities.

The initiative, he noted, is designed to decentralize development by focusing on communities outside Monrovia, where road conditions have historically hampered economic activities.

“Our goal is to ensure development reaches every part of Liberia not just the capital,” Samukai stressed.

Skills Training and Accountability

Beyond job creation, Samukai revealed that the program includes the training of local operators and technicians to competently handle and maintain the equipment, building local capacity and sustainability.

He further assured the public that the steering committee is operating with transparency and accountability to guarantee the effective use of resources and measurable results.

“We remain committed to ensuring that this project delivers lasting impact for the Liberian people,” he added.

The Yellow Machines Initiative forms part of the government’s broader strategy to strengthen road connectivity, boost agricultural productivity, and stimulate grassroots economic growth throughout the country.
