Monrovia, Liberia–: His Excellency President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. has held high-level talks with World Bank Group Managing Director and Chief Knowledge Officer Pascal Donohue at his Rehab Offices in Paynesville, highlighting ongoing engagement with international partners on Liberia’s development agenda.
Mr. Donohue is in the country to engage President Boakai and senior government officials in discussions centered on key development priorities, with particular emphasis on job creation, expanding electricity access through the Mission 300 initiative, and enhancing economic governance.
During their meeting, held on Thursday, March 19, Mr. Donohue indicated that the World Bank Group stands ready to work with the Government of Liberia in advancing the ARREST Agenda and implementing the country’s new development framework. He noted that the Institution is aware of the needs of the Liberian people and looks forward to collaborating with the Government in addressing key challenges.
The World Bank Managing Director disclosed plans to facilitate approximately 100,000 new electricity connections annually over the next five years, aimed at stabilizing power supply and fostering economic growth. He encouraged the Government to maintain focus on the energy sector as a driver of national development.
Mr. Donohue also commended the Government of Liberia for undertaking important reforms, particularly in strengthening domestic revenue generation and making difficult policy decisions to improve economic management.
In response, President Boakai welcomed the World Bank delegation and expressed appreciation for its engagement. The President highlighted road connectivity as a top priority of his Administration, noting that improved infrastructure is essential to expanding economic opportunities and improving the lives of Liberians.
The visiting World Bank delegation, headed by Mr. Donohue, will continue engagements with senior government officials as part of efforts to deepen cooperation and align support with Liberia’s development agenda.
