“The Difficult Truth”

By Emmanuel Gonquoi

Fellow Citizens,

A few days ago, I reminded this nation of a powerful African proverb:

“The wine that is not enough for the entire village should not intoxicate one man.”

Since that statement, I have received several calls from officials within the UP Alliance seeking clarity on the position of the EFFL within the UP Alliance.

In a society where misinformation spreads easily, I find it necessary to once again speak directly to the Liberian people about my African proverb. It is no secret that the EFFL is deeply unhappy with the current leadership climate within the UP Alliance.

There have been repeated leadership missteps, issues we have raised internally, consistently and respectfully, yet without redress. In the future, the people of Liberia will reference our posts and public conversations.

At this stage, we will not place direct blame on the President. The reality is that he is surrounded by advisers who continue to disappoint him politically and undermine the spirit of this Alliance.. At the same time, there are officials within the UP who now behave as though they have arrived, abandoning the principles of partnership and mutual respect that once defined us during the campaign for power.

The UP Alliance leadership, currently chaired by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, has become a complete disappointment. Since elections, the UP Alliance political leaders are yet to officially meet to look at issues within the Government .

This body was created to:

• Represent the voices of Alliance members

• Coordinate effectively with the UP Chairman and the Government

• Strengthen unity within this political marriage

Instead, poor leadership has crippled its purpose. The spirit of the Alliance has been weakened, and the structure now operates in a way that benefits only one side. That is not partnership. That is imbalance. How do we talk about all the disrespect across various agencies of government as Alliance members?

Let it be understood: Other political parties and their leaders continue seek support from EFFL to address internal issues because they know one thing; we are not driven by the pursuit of government jobs. We are driven by the wellbeing of the Liberian people and the dignity of our political commitments. Some political leaders remain silent, waiting for invitations to the table but how long will they wait?

We are not among them. When the EFFL is injured in a political marriage, and all internal channels have failed, we will speak. And we will speak boldly.

I must be clear: I am not one of those who run to the President seeking personal appointments.

When necessary, I advocate for others through established and respectful processes. I believe in systems. I respect order. I honor structure.

We are not just unhappy; we are deeply dissatisfied within the UP Alliance. However, we have taken our concerns directly to the President of Liberia. He remains the final authority, and we now await a decision that we consider politically decisive.

Our ongoing mass mobilization across Montserrado County, and across Liberia, is NOT meant for protest against the Government. Those spreading such claims about protest are either misinformed or deliberately deceptive.

What are we up to?

• Reorganizing our structures nationwide

• Rebuilding our strength

• Preparing for 2029 with clarity and purpose

We have already adopted a policy to win a majority in both Houses of the Legislature. Our presidential position will be formally unveiled at the ATS Rally in October or early next year following nationwide consultations.

For now, even the blue sea will remain calm, out of respect for the President of Liberia. we will not engage in any protest as we await his response to our concerns. We will keep our doors open for dialogue but at the same time, we will not accept any form of disrespect.

EFFL is a radical, disciplined, and honest political force.

We do not practice deception.

We do not fear truth.

We do not bow to convenience.

Our militants are ever ready to move into history without fear. But at this moment, we are guided by discipline, structure, and principle. So let it be known that we are not cowards. If protest were our path, we would take it without hesitation. But we do not protest while we are still engaging diplomatically for redress.

Our top priority is to help the President success and we are committed to that objective. However, EFFL is experiencing political provocation that will soon take us through the unwanted radical path.

Thank you

Our feet shall take us there.
